CAOS Casual/Social Night

Hello everyone,

Although our last official CAOS meeting was last Monday, we will be having a small end-of-the-year get together in the Engineering Building Auditorium (EB 1033) on Monday April 22, 2013 at 7:30 PM. There will be pizza as well as free soda for this casual meet. It will be somewhat of a break before things start to busy up with Finals.

Also, we will be selling the new CAOS shirts for this semester at 12$ a shirt and will be selling them from tomorrow night until Final’s friday (May 3). Note, credit cards will also be accepted as payment. Shirts were ordered based off of the survey results and are limited in supply! Come tomorrow to find out!

US Transcom Presentation

CAOS will be having a special guest speaker present on Wednesday April 10th, 2013 at 4:30 PM in the Engineering Building Room 1012.

Quoting Dr. Mayer (since it pretty much sums up our speaker and the purpose of the presentation rather well):

“General Gregory J. Touhill, our guest speaker, is the directory of Command, Control, Communications, and Computer Systems (J6) in US Transportation Command. In other words, if the US Department of Defense moves it and it’s in a computer, General Touhill’s office manages it. He will be coming to discuss cybersecurity, think about it… they know where and when the troops will be, food delivery for humanitarian efforts in “hot” areas, transporting important government officials. He likely has a very critical eye on cybersecurity.”

We are very honored to have the General come present for us, and we also hope you can come to the presentation as well!!

Mobile Application Development

Next meeting Instructor Socratis will be presenting on Mobile Applications. This presentation will cover the evolution of Apple’s mobile platform from inception to today’s standardized iOS. Socratis will cover the history of iOS, the features it offers to developers, the tools needed for developing for this platform and the significance of the App Store. As well as One of the senior projects group will be giving a presentation on their iOS app. Discussing the process that they went through to obtain the a working application. We will hope to see you all there. It will be in EB1033 @ 7:30pm.

Dr. Fujinoki Presents

Hello Dr. Fujinoki will be presenting this Monday’s meeting on:

Binary migration of cloud users to prevent DoS/DDoS attacks

This project proposes a mechanism to migrate cloud users to prevent
DoS/DDoS attacks, using an overlay network. The essence of the proposed
solution is that cloud users can never locate the physical servers that
host cloud environment. Cloud users and intermediate user/proxy agents
continue to migrate to the location of cloud servers.

CAOS: Robocode

This Monday (February 18, 2013 @7:30 PM in EB Auditorium) will be the prep for this semesters programming competition with ROBOCODE. We will be presenting on the environments that robocode uses and the what you can do with your units. The rules of engagement will be stated and after the battles will begin. REMEMBER: Code the best. Destroy the rest. See you all Monday.

Good Guy Google Aaron Durbin

Hello CAOS members! This Monday at 7:30 pm in room 1033(auditorium) Aaron Durbin a Google representative will be coming to talk to us about his experiences with Google and his current work for the ChromeOS team dealing with firmware/BIOS/kernels. Most of Aaron’s experience deals with low level programming, but he is willing to explain or go into detail.This will be an informal talk so be sure to ask as many questions a possible. Hope that you have had a good break everybody. Members of CAOS this Monday around 5pm the Election for the new Officer will be taking place. We ask that as many members that can attend come and take part in it. For those members that cannot attend, we will try our best to accomodate you with an alternative from of voting via email. Last Meeting for the Semester

This Tuesday will be the last meeting of the semester, sad i know. Its a pretty important meeting though. People that need to buy shirts or ordered shirts that need to be paid, please bring your money. Also people that want to be Officers IT IS REQUIRED that you show up for the whole meeting. We will be discussing any changes in meeting time if any and topics for the next semester. Semester Evaluation are appreciated leave comments on how we have been running things if you want this changed or added. Comments help us improve the CAOS exp. for you guys. Wi-Fi Hacking Night

This Tuesday for the third time we are going to present our Wi-Fi Hacking night. Jake Byers will be presenting on some of the vulnerabilities of wireless networks the various tools to get around them. Afterwards he will demonstrate a live hack on a WEP network. Hope to see members there. Meet will be held on Tuesday @ 5 pm Room 1033 (Auditorium)

Disclosure: The Wi-Fi hacking night will teach you tools on how to hack wireless networks this is a learning tool. We do not encourage you to hack wireless networks, that is illegal.
