I saw this snippet from Slashdot (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/12/20/2033208&mode=thread&tid=127) while boredly looking through freedos.org tonight:
QuoteWoody writes "3DRealms gave us an early Christmas present this year: they've released the complete Rise of the Triad source code in memory of William Scarboro, one of the game programmers who died earlier this year. The source is being released under the GPL, so everyone should be happy.
You can find more information about ROTT at http://www.3drealms.com/rott/, and find the newly released source at http://www.fileplanet.com/files/110000/118170.shtml

That's awesome. For a while that was my favorite game. It was nice to see all the things they included in the game to make mowing down large quantities of baddies more enjoyable. :)
Let's hope someone can do something nice with that game engine. I'm sure it's quite dated, but I'm sure someone can whip something pretty cool up for it.
