I was wondering if anyone has experience with integrated ram in their laptop. I have a dell inspiron 1200 that came with a 256 stick of ram "integrated" into the mobo. And no im not stupid and I do mean integrated as in its not user accessable and dell says you cant change it. However, I havent taken apart the case so I dont know how "integrated" it truly is. If anyone has successfully removed one of these so called un-removable sticks then please let me know how it went. Also if anyone knows for a fact that the ram is un-removable then that would help too. Thanks
in my experience this means it is soldered onto the motherboard - i.e. no socket. in such a case you pretty much need to be a surgeon with the soldering iron if you hope to replace it. good luck.
aye, every integrated piece of hardware I've come across was soldered to the motherboard.
I will third that
Thanks for the help guys. Unfortunately it seems that to get the most out of my machine im going to have to take out the 512 stick i already bought and buy a 1 gig one. And to top it off i wont ever be able to get the most out of ddr ram if i cant run in dual channel mode(cause im not going to have two 256 sticks). Why does Dell %@#$#@ you like this? Just to save a little space in the case?
Be carefull. Make sure your laptop will accept a gig of ram. With an integrated 256 I would think it may have a total limit of one gig (depends on the MoBo). And dell does that because its cheaper and they can deliver a lower priced product.
