Title: home.cs: System hard locks ... important to home.cs users!!!
Post by: William Grim on 2004-04-24T18:04:51-05:00 (Saturday)
Hello.

If you've been using home.cs and experiencing lockups recently, it is most likely (I'm 95% sure) due to a poorly written driver for our RAID controller.

I have proposed some solutions to my peers about the best approach to take to resolve the problem until the end of the semester, but until I hear back from them, it is possible the system may lock up again.  I have a permanent solution that will definately happen once summer begins; we'll see if I get to implement it sooner or not.

Please save your work in your home directory often.  Any data saved in your home directory will remain safe.

I have upgraded the kernel on home.cs to a newer version.  This affected some users of the system directly, but that issue has been resolved.

If anyone else experiences problems using home.cs with the new kernel, please email the address listed when you log into home.cs.

It is not safe to say the problems are resolved, but since the upgrade, there have been no lockups.

Thanks.
