Title: SIUE SMTP Server Issues
Post by: Gish on 2003-08-24T20:26:51-05:00 (Sunday)
The last couple of days I have noticed that SIUE's SMTP server disappears, you can't make a connection to it etc.  It will come up at random times, then die again.  POP3 seems to be working fine the whole time.  Are there any know issues with it?  I haven't seen anything posted about it.

Thanks.

Due to the recent SoBig.F virus, SIUE has been overwhelmed with virus email. To deal with this excess of mail the servers have had to be taken down and the mail delivery slowed and partitioned. This is why the servers have been up and down. The mail is mostly caught up now and the servers should be more responsive.

I really wish I could agree with you.  I'm still waiting on a piece of mail that was sent on Tue, 26 Aug 2003 at 16:39:42.  It still isn't here.  I love this quote from The Alestle this morning.  "...Now mail is delivered in real time," Drueke said.  Sigh
