CAOS will be giving away an iPod Shuffle at this year's Springfest. How it will work it is, we will have a large, clear, container full of sticks of RAM and keyboard keys. People will pay $1 to guess how many of each are in there. People can have as many guesses as they want. The person closest to each will win the iPod Shuffle.
We will need volunteers to man the booth between 10-2, Wednesday April 13th and Thursday April 14th. Within the next few days I will put up a little php app to sign up to volunteer. There's really no reason that more than one person (me) has to know how many of each are in there, so volunteers WILL be eligible to enter the contest just like passers by.
I suggest a little different strategy. Have 2 containers: a big one with keyboard keys that is the "primary" container and a smaller one with ram sticks that is the "secondary" container. We base the winner off the primary container unless there is a tie inwhich case we go by the secondary container. Any word on how much we've profited from the "not associated with CAOS in any way" tshirts?
We could do that too. Essentially it's for the same reason. I was going to have both items for tie breaking purposes.
And I forgot to mention. If you have any old sticks of RAM (it doesn't matter what kind) or an old keyboard that's wasting space that you'd be willing to part with, please let me know (email or pm).

Small update.
We're going to use 1 container with white keyboard keys (primary) and black keyboard keys (secondary). I already have the keyboards.
Sign up to volunteer!!!
Just as a reminder seeing as this thing is in a couple of weeks. If anyone is free at some of these times please volunteer to man the booth. If our booth just stands empty most of the time that will make us look really bad. Remember, we need to get out there and let lonely geeks and nerds alike know that we are there for them. Thanks

CAOS Vice-Pres. ;-)
The other officers would be great too :-o
I'll man the booth. What are the times needed? I take night classes mostly.
look at the red notice on the main page, and click on the volunteer link in it, it's all there.
We still need some volunteers, and Springfest is THIS WEEK!!! If you have not done so already, please volunteer in the available times by going here (http://antifusion.com/caos/springfest.php).
I filled in the needed slots as best I could but unfortunately the most needed slot is a time that I CAN NOT miss class. I may be out there some other times as well.
yeah, i uh, accidently double booked myself for 1/2 hour on thursday. we are supposed to give our status reports on thursday at 12:30.
so i can still hang 12-12:30, but that's all the time i have. i guess i should not miss class either.
Thanks everyone for volunteering and stopping by during Springfest. The winner of the iPod Shuffle was our own treasurer and unofficial dictator ModernDayDarwin.
Good guessing Bryan!
In the interest of humanity (and the fact that I already have an ipod) I returned the ipod to Target last night and am sending a check for $106 to The American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. They need it more than I do.
I know I'm not the faculty advisor, but I'm curious - what was the return on investment?
Well after looking at the amoutn of money CAOS has in our checking account we decided not to use this as a fund raiser but instead as just something to promote CAOS. We made the money back that we spent on it and donated all extra to tsunami relief (which I'll admit, wasn't much).
As the person that did most of the heckling at our Springfest booth with passers by, I can wholeheartedly say we would not have broken even without having the proceeds going to tsunami victims. That sealed the deal for a lot of people, they would all say "I'm not any good at those", but then I busted out the line about tsunami relief, and it caught quite a few of them for a buck or two. So, in a sense, we made more money giving the proceeds to charity, because we broke even instead of losing money.
Quite a few less people would be willing to basically throw a couple bucks away so we can throw pizza parties and lan nights.
Besides, they need the money a lot more than we do. :help:
