Title: Fedora Core 1 update and install server on campus.
Post by: R. Andrew Lamonica on 2004-01-27T12:13:54-06:00 (Tuesday)
If you live on campus and user Fedora Core 1 you can benefit from the existence of the updates server that the CS department uses to keep its Fedora systems up2date.

To use this service all you need to do is plug your computer into the campus network and change the text file â€Ã...“/etc/sysconfig/rhn/sourcesâ€Ã, so that â€Ã...“home.cs.siue.eduâ€Ã, appears everywhere in place of â€Ã...“fedora.redhat.comâ€Ã,.

The server mirrors RedHat at least once a day, but is only accessible from on-campus users.  If you want to install a package from the server you use the following command as root after changing the file.

up2date â€ââ,¬Å"i packagename

To update your system to the latest versions of common packages type

up2date â€ââ,¬Å"u
