Title: The First Robotic Musician
Post by: Ross Mead on 2006-10-03T23:23:40-05:00 (Tuesday)
So I dunno' if any of you saw this on Slashdot (http://www.slashdot.org/), but Georgia Tech (http://www.gatech.edu/) has developed a robot musician that keeps a pretty good beat (almost primal... ;-) ).  Check it out:

- Musical robot composes, performs, and teaches (http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/10/03/musical.robot/index.html)
- Haile Robot Drummer Prototype (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MvKYLKhNG8)
- Haile, the interactive robot drummer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veQS6tsogAA)

All I need is a bassist (**cough**... iamjwc (http://caos.siue.edu/userinfo.php?uid=473)... **cough**) and a singer, and I've got myself another band! :-P

Hmm, Haile (http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/10/03/musical.robot/index.html) would be an awesome pickup player for Captured! by Robots (http://www.capturedbyrobots.com/).  On a related note, this could actually provide some interesting multi-robot interaction research; what kind of music would an [impromptu] band of these types of [learning] (i.e., not pre-programmed) robots generate?  Hmm,... :-D
