Hey all,
This Saturday the School of Engineering is hosting an open house for all students interested in coming to SIUE. During this event, CAOS usually holds a LAN party in EB 1036 in order to promote themselves and the computer science department to prospective students. Come join us on Saturday and help promote SIUE and the computer science department.
If anyone is interested in helping out, please post here and send me a private message letting me know what time you will be able to help etc. so that I can keep count of how many volunteers we will have.
Lastly, the games we will be playing are XIII (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XIII_%28video_game%29) and Quake 3 Arena. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quake_3_Arena)
Thanks,
Shaun
Bump.
We really need volunteers guys. What's one hour out of your Saturday to come play video games?
What time? I got class till 3 on sat.
9 -2 . Right now it looks like Shaun and I are playing video games with each other all day. Hmm Maybe I will change the way that post is printed to read "LAN PARTY" that might stir some interest.
bummer
I'll be there sometime around 10 until whenever my wife gets done shopping at St. Clair (quite possibly midnight since we just got tax returns).
I should be signed up to start at 12. I might be able to show up at 11.
Okay so I took and modified the News header...and then someone ..REAAAALLLYY modified it
Don't you just hate those low lifes who distort a nice website to annoy everyone with an advertisement!
LAN party!!! Are SIUE Alum's allowed? And when is everyone getting there? 9:00 sharp?
Everyone is allowed its open to the public really. And Shaun and I will be there sometime before 9:00 so come on in. Man I just realized I haven't played a FPS in so long. I may need to scratch up on my skillz yo.
neverplayed either of those games before :'(
I still think I might drop in though. No promises.
Just wanted to say the LAN party rocked, and I think fragging may be the best way to spread our CAOS love.
Let's get some more of these going! :D
The LAN party was a blast, those who didn't come really missed out......Even though Gopher cheated the last couple games of quake, it was still fun :-P

No kidding! Next time -- no 1337 h4x or I'll turn your monitor off again =p
sorry I could only drop by for a few minutes  Had I the chance I would have stayed all day! had fun while I was there!
Damn, I always find out about events within a day of their occurrence.
Every single time...
I need to check the news forum more often...
How would you like to find out about events? Where would you check more frequently?
Perhaps the CS department would allow us to upload a calender into the moodle system. The RSS feed is also a good way to keep track. Maybe we could have a rss feed dedicated to a single event thread.
Today was a blast even though there were just a few of us What a great time. I must say though put me in close quarters and look the hell out. Expecially if you are a blue floating eye ball
Oh as far as communication. Lets see...We had a HUGE scrolling banner. Two emails went out, flyers etc. Ohh and we do have an RSS feed and this post would have been up there. Anywhere you look you can find out. But if there is some form on communication you think we are missing please let me know and I'll see what I can do.
Thanks,
Scott
I represent the FEBOA (Floating Eye Balls of America) and we resent your statement sir.
That eye ball was ridiculous..... Always jumping around everywhere...
anyway, as far as on the web you can find out pretty easily when CAOS events are going on. There is a calendar that is part of the forum that has all of the events on it, emails are sent out, the RSS feed, and the forum its self.
Maybe the problem is that we do not show the eye ball enough respect. Maybe we are prejudice toward those who's eye balls are not the same as ours. But maybe....just MAYBE thats because they got major PWNED today.. :gunfire:
I liked the big scrolling banner, lets have a reason for another (another lan party????)
You tried to say ?....
I also had a good time. Thanks for having it open to the public and letting us old people play!
Anytime ! We are always looking for more people. I will be sure to mention that you are looking for help at our meetings.
You're just jealous of my 1337 newly-discovered Quake 3 skills! :-P
Blue eyeball FTW!!

A Message from the Dean . . .
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The School of Engineering Open House on Saturday, February 23 went very well. We had approximately 500 visitors, much larger group than last year, and it might even be a record high number. I am aware that most departmental presentations, if not all, needed larger room for their presentations; we will try to solve this problem for next year. I would like to thank everyone who came on Saturday to help us out with this event. Several parents personally told me that they had a very good visit and they were happy with what they have seen. I think our students were fantastic too. I have extended my appreciation to the ones I came across, but I know there are several others; please extend my thanks to them as well.

Both good ideas.
