Title: What XOOPS stands for.
Post by: Stiffler on 2002-08-22T10:02:36-05:00 (Thursday)
XOOPS = eXtended Object Orientated Portal System. The developers had to add a word on to the front otherwise it would be OOPS, and that is not good marketing.  :-) They eventual decided upon "Extended" because of the many enhancements over the other Portal Systems. However, there was a lot of talk as to what letter of "Extended" they should use. Many wanted LOOPS and the others wanted DOOPS, so they decided to use XOOPS as a compromise. And now you know the rest of the story.

aah,  i c.

Good to know.  I think LOOPS would not have been a great choice - rings too closely of "infinite loops", which is really just another oops.

And DOOPS makes it sound too much like someone's cheating at Diablo...

(any b.net diablo players get that one?)
