Title: An email sent to me at webmaster@caos.siue.edu
Post by: Admin on 2002-10-15T09:31:17-05:00 (Tuesday)
This is actually kinda funny, if you read it carefully:

After reading that there should be a certin thought going through you head. I had a very good laugh at it. See if you can get it. Post thoughts, comments, expressions of rage about it here.

The only thought going through my head is

"Would this Sarah girl really love to hear from Jon?"

But I imagine that this isn't what you meant.

300,000 search enginges and directories?  Huh?  How many well-used search engines are there?  Maybe 20... and directories, well, the only on I ever use is www.dmoz.org, and I don't even use that all that often.

Did I get the joke?  And do I get a cookie out of it?

You can have the cookie anyway. Evidently y'all have bad memories. Well, I expected everyone that has access to the private for to get it. At least we are listed in google now. That's the only search engine I use. I fact, when I type something in and click search, it's a google search, not msn. :-) I still can't stand the fact that these people took the time to scan every IP for a webpage, search all the search engines for it, and then have the gall to contact the Webmaster asking for money.

I hardly think this company when through the touble to scan ips and query search engines.  This is probably some second-company that has a bot running looking for "mailto:" links on websites and then spams all the harvested emails (I got the same email you did).  They probably work on the same assumptions that the Nigerian bank scammers relay on.... Most people will blow off the email, but a few are dumb enough to fall for it.

Huh?

I setup a website about half a year ago here http://t2.linux.petition.free.fr/ and I get those same types of e-mails like once a month. They just use some sort of e-mail sniffing bot or something...I don't know but it's safe to say that it was a what that sent it and not a who.

But yeah it's fairly easy to get listed on google.
plug in "tribes2 Linux petition" and it spits out the website I made....

..oh yeah and I know the graphics suck. :-D
