TechTV had an interesting story on the NIST test course for comparing performance of rescue robots across a vast array of obstacles...  Couldn't find the video on the TechTV site yet, but here's what I found at NIST:

The second link has pics of the course (unfortuantely during shipping, not once built)  The robot in this pic

performed the best, completing all tasks and climbing the stairs to rescue the remaining mannequins...
