Title: Looking for Linux Box Parts
Post by: R. Andrew Lamonica on 2006-10-13T10:06:48-05:00 (Friday)
Dr. Krauss (http://www.siue.edu/ENGINEER/ME/people/faculty/dr._ryan_krauss.htm), the new Mechanical Engineering Professor, asked me if I know where he can get computer parts to build himself a 64bit Linux box.  Since I haven’t built a computer recently and we get our spare parts from NewEgg or CDWG, I told him I would have to ask around.

Question: Where can you get computer parts in the area?  I assume that Dr. Krauss might be willing to go as far as St. Louis.

Answer: Post here or send to his e-mail address which can be found on his faculty page (http://www.siue.edu/ENGINEER/ME/people/faculty/dr._ryan_krauss.htm).

I don't know of anywhere better than NewEgg.

I would use NewEgg or Pricewatch; however, there is a place in Fairview Heights right next to the Hooters in that same strip mall that sells computers customized to run Linux.  The guy that runs that place also heads the SLUG meetings I think; so, that place is definitely Linux friendly if personal exchange is necessary.
