Embedded systems and robotics.  I'm thinking about finding a side gig doing one of the two, because they're lots of fun and worth good money.

Does it have to be in Ruby and on a Mac? :D

Anyways, I am actually working on something he suggests, webservices.  I am just working on various dumb webservices in Java with Unix.  Getting familiar with hosting them with Jboss from my Linux box and building it with ant files.  Pretty kewl actually.

Also, Justin, are you in NY yet?  If so, how goes it?

Haha. Of course it doesn't have to be on a Mac with Ruby... although...

That's awesome, Tony. I just am interested to hear what anyone is working on that isn't related to school. I'm always working on stuff like this because I am so anti formal education, and believe it is the best way to learn, especially in this field.

And yes, I am in NY. I started my job on monday, the 18th. I'll post soon about it (with pictures, links, descriptions, etc.). But, I am having a great time.

Awesome.  I bet it is going to be a blast up there.  Grats.

Also, I agree with Justin.  Side projects are the way to go.  I didn't realize how much I didn't know until I had senior projects with Justin and started working at Lockheed Martin.  School just teaches you how to think and learn, but there is sooooo much we don't learn there.  Sometimes it is hard find good side projects when you don't know where to start.  Like me, I don't have too many friends that are into computers, so I don't really have anyone to bounce ideas off.  However, finding a few good blogs and just paying attention to new technologies and getting interested in them is the way to go.  IMHO.

Well and secretive, hopefully turning into a profitable venture with a couple other people.

You?
