A quick list of qualifications that interns must meet:
* US Citizen capable of getting a clearance
* 3.0+ GPA
* Enrolled as a CS or related major in a Bachelor's Degree program
* Ability to provide their own travel and housing
Having demonstratable engineering related hobbies outside of school is a plus. Also, the further along in their academic careers the better.
My group mainly works on networking/SOA research projects. A quick list of things the interns did this summer to give you an idea:
+ SOA timing tools for measuring performance of web services
+ Simulated mission tracking (Pulling in data and mashing it together in web portals)
+ Network simulation, writing code to take items from a spreadsheet and create representative services
+ Services for simulating or talking to existing data
+ Some visualization using NASA World-Wind
+ Matlab modeling of Signal Quality
+ RaphaelJS frontends for BPEL execution state
+ SOA messaging framework code
