AMD

I always vote for the little guy, althought AMD isn't so little anymore....

My AMD K5 75MHz still purrs like a kitten.

AMD.

I go with them for the same reasons everyone else always lists- "bang for the buck", always root for the little guy, etc.  Since I got hired at work I've completly changed our hardware philosophy- no Intel (except wireless products) and we hand build all PCs.  This saves us a bundle every time we go out and get a couple dozen PCs.

Intel is getting to be as cheap as AMD, but you gotta hand it to AMD for forcing their hand on that.

I use whatever has the best performance for the price at the time.

Right now I have a P4 1.6a, runs at 2400mhz without a problem.  About to setup watercooling, hoping to hit 2600-2800 :)

But yes, I usually go AMD on systems I build for others, it usually is the best bang for the buck.

Can you get an Intel that uses DDR RAM yet?  I am a real fan of that technology and Intel seems to have been a little slow on the draw there.  In the past I have used Intel, but my last computer purchase was three years ago (see my My Computer Is... Post) before you could buy anything by a video card that used DDR.

Yeah, you can get an P4/DDR board (http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/bt/index.htm (http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/bt/index.htm)), but by what I understand it's much better to get RAMBUS due to it's extra bandwidth.  So, to optimally use the P4 you shouldn't use DDR.  To optimize the price the choice might be different, though.

I have a p4 2.0 with 512 mb DDR. It runs a hell of a lot faster than Rambus :-) My brother works at Intel, so I need to get Intel CPUs to support him. Well, he get them for free sometimes.

rambus advantage should dissapear soon, with intel bringing out springdale q2 03, featuring duel channel ddr.   and i don't know that i would say a rambus board is better due to the high latencys of the tech,

but if you went amd (the better choice:-D ), then there would be no argument  ;-)

AMD is honest with their (non-overclocked) ghz speeds. So if you like them or not, you have to give them props for that. (did I just say props?)
