Title: C.A.O.S. t-shirts
Post by: Bryan on 2005-02-01T15:14:25-06:00 (Tuesday)
This is going to be the offical "what should we put on the CAOS T-shirts" thread.  The first submission comes from your fearless sexretary.

Front: "There are 10 kinds of people in this world"
Back: "Those that are in C.A.O.S. and those that aren't."

Please post your own ideas!

I vote for

Front: "There are 10 kinds of people in this world"
Back: "Those that are in C.A.O.S. and those that aren't."

But then again, I (the fearless sexretary) did come up with the great idea.

I'm flattered Bryan.  At least you didn't post that picture of me from work.

I definitely like the "There are 10 kinds of people in this world" shirt.

Throwing some other ideas out there though, what about a shirt with a user ranking type thing on it.  Have shirts with five stars on the front and the corresponding saying below them like:

"I have no life; so, I respond to my own posts."
"A lesser deity of CAOS."
"A GOD among MEN. I have all the answers!"

Just one of those sayings on the front of course.  Then, you could put CAOS on the back.  Just a thought!   :-D

That would be really cool too.

Maybe a combination of the two??

I know that if we have to have several different kinds of shirts (for the rankings), it would be more expensive.  So that is a consideration we have would have to keep in mind.

Post by: Ross Mead on 2005-02-02T15:19:07-06:00 (Wednesday)
Having shirts for each of the different rankings would be expensive.  Couldn't we just let EVERYONE think they are "A GOD among MEN" and that they "have all the answers!"?   :-P

I like the implications that "A GOD among MEN" has for female CAOS members.
Nothing cooler than a geek girl, if I do say so myself  ;-)

Just because I believe in brainstorming ideas ...

Have you ever seen those t-shirts that have math formulas or physics formulas printed upside down on the front (so the wearer could look down to be reminded of the formula)?  We could put algorithms  :-D

I don't know if my idea is possible but I thought it would be funny.

Front: A normal PC "smiling"
Back: A PC with CAOS on it and modified alittle with bubble saying "I feel violated". PC frowning.

Best idea I can think of.

You would probably have to do a little modification to relate it to CAOS, but I came up with an idea for a shirt when I was boored in class when I was still going to SIU. :bored:

On the back it would look like Task Manager's process tab and would list processes something as follows:

Image Name_________CPU %
Paying attention______00
Staring at the wall____01
Breathing____________01
Planning weekend_____03
System Idle Process___95

 8-)

We'd probably still have to modify it to relate it to CAOS somwhow.

I'm still fond of the 10 kinds of people one.

I smell a poll coming up soon. :idea:

that's windows specific, "you insensitive clod!"  i would rather not sully my appearance with such plebian threads.

(but seriously, i do hold some disdain for windows)

Post by: Elizabeth Weber on 2005-02-03T11:25:29-06:00 (Thursday)
The only thing I don't like about the 10 kinds of people is that it's a little tired, old and overused.

It's cousin: "How many people can read hex if only you and dead people can read hex?"  Is much more fresh, esoteric and therefore geeky.
The back of the shirt would then have the answer: 57006

More phrasal ideas:

Code Monkey

esrever
reenigne

(or for the truly inside joke twist:
 esrever
gnirenigne   )

PEBKAC

146.163.150.31

Promote Safe Hex
Join CAOS

Resistance is futile

SYN
ACK
(could be front/back or
offset right/left on the front)

Some of these ideas are best used in combination with others.

I'd REALLY like to see a small   w00t!   at the bottom of the back in addition to whatever CAOS/GOD amoung MEN references are there

I'm really liking the Promote Safe Hex--Join CAOS idea.

Now if only Dooly didn't put me to sleeping in 312 I could remember the conversions.  -_-

Some ideas:

A black shirt with "POKE 53281, 0" on the front in white. (Maybe that's too esoteric?)

(define geek? (lambda(x)
(and (like? (computers)
(digital? (watch))))

A 2 or 3 iteration Hilbert curve - neat looking, and only people who know what it is will understand the meaning.

Or, perhaps just "I could have been a rabbit farmer."

Quotethat's windows specific

true ...

but it's still an amusing idea, just reformat it

$ ps -au
USER ___________ PID %CPU %MEM   SZ  RSS TTY STAT  TIME COMMAND
prof ____________ 666 74.2 _ 22.5 223 376 _ p5 _ R __ 2:12 babbling incoherently
superCAOSuser ___ 90 _10.9 _ 50.8 946 826 _ p6 _ S _ 56:04 dozing off
superCAOSuser ___ 6969  3.5 __ 1.2  354  240 _ co _ I __     0:19 planning weekend
superCAOSuser ___ 7164 0.2 __ 0.3  142   146 _ p3 _ Z __    0:04 staring @ wall
$ kill 666

Which of course leaves you open to a lot of embedded jokes in the PIDs etc.

(formatting that into something halfway readable was a pain)

I came up with that back when _I_ was still windows specific.

(I hold some disdain for Windows too, Bill.)

I like the idea of embedding jokes in the PIDs, Elizabeth.  If you remember, my Senior Project group had plenty of embedded jokes in our HEX code, etc.  My favorite was actually unintentional: Phil Ness hosted the website and answered e-mails for the EE side of the project, so their website was www.siue.edu/~pness and the contact was pness@siue.edu.  And Ehlmann thought we should have that information in all our presentations.  :-D

By the way, Elizabeth, shouldn't you be working? ;-)

I think a lot of the ideas are really good.  I like the one about "A GOD among MEN!  I have all the answers!"

What if, on the back, we also put a little bit of complete geek on it (like this)....

movb $A, %al
shlb  2, %al
orb  $2, %al

This just places 0xA in a the lower 8-bit of the EAX accumulator, then it shifts it left by 2 (multiplies it by 4) and or's it by 2 (adds 2 to it).

It gives the meaning to life, the universe, and everything, which is 42.

NOTE: I could be a little off with that.  I'm a bit new to Intel ASM and AT&T syntax.

I think something like the three lines of assembly would be good as an addition.  It can make us look really intelligent, living in the "Hacker Underground", where all kinds of mischevious things can happen.

Most people will just look at us and say to themselves, "Dub-you Tee Eff?"

Anybody with some artistic/graphics talent want to volunteer to draw up some of these ideas in a jpeg/bmp/gif etc and post them?  I'm not the best artist, and I already know the place we'll go, and they need a print to give us an estimate.

After we get some mocked up, we'll use a poll to decide.

I thought the one with the "A GOD among men... " would have the quote on the FRONT with CAOS on the BACK, and five stars ABOVE the quote, like on the site itself.  Just a suggestion...

Am I looking at this wrong?

Instead of â€Ã...“Will code for Mountain Dew.â€Ã,  It should say something like â€Ã...“Will Code for Caffeine.â€Ã,  This small change solves two problems.

1. We will not have to worry about the legality problems that can sometimes appear when using brand names on campus.  You would not think anyone would have a problem with us using the words â€Ã...“Mountain Dewâ€Ã, but the school threw a fit when Pete Motykowski tried to advertise the â€Ã...“Red Hat Road Tourâ€Ã, because the advertisements contained the brand name â€Ã...“Red Hat.â€Ã,

2. If you like Pepsi instead of Mountain Dew then the shirt still works. ;-)

like:

void main()

while (caffeine && pizza)
{
    bugs = hack_program();
  hack_count += debug_program();
}

if (hack_count < MAX_INT)
pat_on_the_back();

to be honest, the "coodah is a whatah" design was the only design i would have bought hahahah (and anyone else that took CS 330 would agree)

students should get a shirt as a complimentary gift for completing the course, kinda like a "I survived CS 330 and all I got was this lousy t-shirt"

We have had a change in the tshirt ordering.  Because of the controversial nature of the tshirts, we have had to remove anything that can tie the tshirts to CAOS.  We have 11 ordered so far, and we are still going to get them, but any more orders are on the dl.  If you still want one, just email me tyler[at]antifusion[dot]com with the size you want.  They're going to come in navy blue.

The dealine for this under the table tshirt deal is tomorrow night (March 15th) at midnight.

The "unofficial" CAOS shirts are in.

I will be bringing them to the lecture/rvb night tomorrow night, so you better be there if you ordered one and want to pick it up.

Remember, the cost is $15.

Also, I will be bringing a few extra, and if you still want one, they will be sold on a first come first serve basis.
