I've got some video files which play on some proprietary software but I can't seem to get them to play in something like Windows Media or Winamp.

Anyone have good suggestions for a nice video converter to get the video into some nice avi files?

you should go to http://www.yaodownload.com/video-design/videoencodersconverter/ to find more tools that related to the video converter you need

I recommend SUPER. (Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer) It can handle many different formats and more importantly, it is completely free! :-)

You can get it at:

I had to do plenty of searching to find one that was actually free, since most are shareware and only allow you to convert part of videos or will add an icon to you video.

Yes, there are so many such software. Maybe you can get your answer here:

Handbrake is by far the best converter I've used. Even has presets for various formats like iPod and PS3/Xbox
