I have an opportunity to hire a second graduate research assistant in modeling and simulation research. It is a two-semester timeframe from Fall 2010 - Spring 2011. I have planned for a full-time assistant, 20 hours / week.

The purpose of the research is to devise a means by which neural networks and other artificial intelligence may be used to assist modelers in developing complex hybrid models built from distinct, robust subsytem models. In addition to hands-on development of models, it will require the GA to work through problems at the system-theoretic level. Thus, this research will require some on-the-side tutoring in more advanced modeling and simulation topics than those that will be presented in CS 525, Principles of Simulation.

The graduate assistant will be expected to write, submit, and present at least one conference paper on the results of this research. Depending upon the results achieved, a journal paper is also possible.

If you are interested, you must apply for a graduate assistantship with the Department of Computer Science. I will examine candidates from that pool. Further, you must also be enrolled in or successfully pass the CS 525 course (it is being offered this Spring). I will accept soft-copies of resumes from any graduate student who is particularly interested in this research and no more than a 1-page cover letter explaining why you feel that you are best suited for this assistantship. However, keep in mind that you must apply for a GA through normal channels.

I will update this post with more specific information when I have it. Please contact me at gamayer[at]siue[dot]edu with any other questions.

This project is funded and I am looking for a GA to start this semester. See details of the position below.

My preference is to hire a student who has taken CS 525 (Principles of Simulation) and has experience with neural entworking.

To restate, if you are interested, you must apply for a graduate assistantship with the Department of Computer Science. I will examine candidates from that pool. I will accept soft-copies of resumes from any graduate student who is interested in this research and no more than a 1-page cover letter explaining why you feel that you are best suited for this assistantship. However, please keep in mind that you must apply for a GA through normal channels (i.e., the CS department).

Please send your resumes to or contact me with any other questions at gamayer[at]siue[dot]edu.
