A public beta of Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (from the Giant
acquisition) is available at the following location:

Does anyone else wonder how long it will take for someone to find a vulnerability caused by this software that will allow malicious advertisers to install spyware on you system?

I suppose that may be a little over-cynical, but Microsoft doesn't exactly have a good track record where security is concerned.

on the other hand, this isnt really made by microsoft.  it's my giantsoftware, msoft just bought them out, then changed the names, copyrights, and a few logos.  the icons and UI is still exactly the same.  giant got good ratings from what i saw.  i'm glad i get to try this for more than 15 days (206, to be exact- July 31st, 2005 is the expiration date) like the origional one was for.

Regardless of who made it, there are going to be bugs in any commercial software producut.  I could go on and on about my experiences testing our (commercial) software that interoperates with other commercial software from Unigraphics, Sun, Oracle, etc.  If enough people try hard enough, somebody will find a bug that poses a security risk.  Because it has the Microsoft logo on it, it is guaranteed to be both widely used and widely targeted. :sniperrifle::2gunfire: :gunfire:

At home I use Linux eclusively when I'm connected to the 'Net.  Due to its small market share and incompatibility with most anything Microsoft, I THINK I'm pretty safe.  What do you guys think? :-?

I'm not sure about their antispyware software, but I know their antispam software, Spam Inspector, is quite good.  I know a guy who gets over 250 emails a day (he runs an online business).  ~200 is spam, and it catches pretty much all of them, and quite accurately.

I use Windows and Outlook for my email.  I have Norton Antivirus and I use Firefox.  I never have any problems with viruses.  Every once in a while Norton will pop up saying it quarantined a virus from an email, but that's about it.  Firefox is both cooler and safer because of it's lack of Active X support (among other things), so I feel pretty safe about surfing the web.  I hear bad things about Outlook for security when it comes to emails (Auto Preview especially), but I have never had a problem with it.  So either the security flaws are over hyped or I'm just a lucky/safe user.  Sadly, I think I'm a safe user.
