For those of you who don't know, at the first CAOS meeting of the semester, I spoke about holding an on-campus programming competition in a simple, turn-based strategy game.  Well, the program framework is being laid as I use some of its code to create a game for someone else, and I'm going to need beta-testers in a few weeks.

The game is called CAOS (Combat Automated Officer Simulation).  Yeah, I'm really not original, but at least I tried to tie an acronym to it.

Anyway, when I get this program written, I would like to get some people to beta-test it.  I will only do a limited-opening beta test, because I don't want everyone knowing the details of the program until competition day.  Also, the beta-testers won't be able to compete on competition day (but they'll all get their names in the software credits for testing and possibly submitting an AI).

So, anyone want to beta test it for me in roughly two or three weeks?  I'm kind of doubting I'll get network support working by the April competition, but I'm hoping!  What will likely end up happening is that my program will run several different AI on the same computer system, via IPC pipe communication, since that's what the current game pretty much does right now.

I'd be really appreciative of the help.  I'd like to come up with something other than just being in the game credits if you, for instance, create the best beta-test AI that is used on competition day as the practice opponent for users.

So, what do you say?

I would volunteer, but I really wanna be in the programming competition.  But, I will volunteer if really needed.

It sounds cool, but I'm really busy and I can't really committ to do stuff like play games.  I can't play computer games very much as it is (which is very sad.)  Why don't you try and go to that gaming place in E-ville and get some UBER 1337 CYBERZ to test your game?  They probably won't be entering the programming contest.
