School Shooting

I don't know what good it will do, but I just wanted to express my thoughts about the latest shootings.

First off, my deepest sympathies go out to the families and friends of the victims.

This just goes to show you that crazy stuff like this could happen anywhere.  Maybe we should all be a little more aware of the people around us.  I have no clue what I would do if something like this happened to us.

I was just watching the news and some students were saying that one of the professors, a Holocaust survivor who came here from Israel, died so his students could escape.  He threw himself in front of the door to stop the guy from getting in, and after the kid pushed his way in, the professor threw himself in front of the gun so that his students could jump out of the three-story window.

I don't know if I could have that kind of courage, but while it makes me sad that there are crazy people out there like this kid, it makes me proud to know that there are heroes like this in our country.

Anyways, I just wanted to start a thread that maybe we could express any feelings we have on this sad event.  Everyone stay safe, and don't do anything crazy like this guy did.
I would rather be hated for doing what I believe in, than loved for doing what I don't.

I think one of the most important things to do is to continue our lives. My fiance practically wants me to drop out because she's scared this thing could happen here, but we all can't hide.  I don't know what this guy (the shooter) was feeling and I don't really want to know.

In regards to the courageous man you were speaking of...
His name was Liviu Librescu and if any of you really want to celebrate/mourn his sacrifice (I say celebrate in terms of his bravery, not his demise), I would say go to your classes and pay a little more attention than you usually do.  After all, this hero didn't give his life so his students could slack through theirs.  He gave it so that the could live, learn, and love.  Maybe we all forget that once in a while....

As said before, be safe everyone...
