I am going to be purchasing a Macbook Pro in the next week or so, and I am currently debating whether I should get the 3 year extended protection plan or not. It comes with 1 year for free. I worked in Geek Squad and know that even the slightest ding in an iPod would result in Apple's refusal to service an item ever again and am affraid that the same will be true if I spend the ~$250 for this service as well. If anyone has ANY experience with the 3 year extended protection plan from Apple please post here or PM me.

Thanks,
Thanks,
John

I always buy my applecare a few weeks before the first year of hardware support runs out. You have within the first year to purchase it. Its completely up to you. I would buy it no matter what though.

My one year just expired and I gave it a lot of thought.

I don't have a bunch of $ lying around and $200 seemed like a lot since my mac only costs $1000.

I finally decided not to do it.  If my mac got the point that I could not repair it myself for a reasonable cost, I will use that as an excuse to get a new one.

If you want to use your mac for 3 years, then I would highly recommend getting the plan because macs are fragile (I'm on my 3rd LCD).

Alright, thanks for the responce. I think the total for the MacBook Pro will be around $2500, so I imagine I will get it but not for a few months at least.

Thanks again,
Thanks,

Well, all companies will refuse to repair products if it's due to abuse or mishandling.  That is, of course, unless you pay to have abused/mishandled areas repaired.  The warranty is not void just because you abused the product; they just won't pay for abuse/mishandling repairs.

Having said that, I have to say that I'm happy with my Macbook.  I had a first-gen MB that crapped out on me a few times, and it took me some trying to get Apple to fully replace the system with a newer second-gen model.  This latest model has had no problems at all and runs like a champ.

Definitely do yourself a favor and get the AppleCare extended plan when your warranty gets close to ending; it's worth it on the laptops.
