Hello,

I have finished porting the forum posts to the new database for Joomla, and I'm putting it into an open beta phase.  While in the open beta, look out for these things:

1) The database can and will be refreshed as necessary while more porting work is done.
2) Your user information will be incorrect until that porting work is finished, but your username/password will work right now.
3) Your avatars are missing.  I'm not sure how to resolve this particular issue right now; it will be one of the last things fixed.
4) I know the site is ugly and baren.  All the work has currently gone into porting the forum posts since it's our most important component.
5) The polls still need to be ported.  They will be ported after the rest of the user information is ported.

I would appreciate it if anyone from the CAOS group or CAOS frequenters could lend a hand to get content onto the front page.  The design obviously needs changed, and a new style is definitely needed.

If any current or past CAOS members are willing to help on this, please post back on here.

The beta site is at http://mpr.cs.siue.edu/.

Thanks, and your feedback is much appreciated!

P.S.: RSS feed links are near the bottom of Joomla pages.  The RSS feed for the forums is http://mpr.cs.siue.edu/index2.php?option=com_fireboard&func=fb_rss&no_html=1.  I surely hope you do enjoy that :-D

Grim you rock! Seriously, thanks for getting all this stuff working.

That Karma thing looks awesome!

It is looking good, but one of the problems that you did not list is that the CODE blocks are not being escaped properly.  Just look at the "help on some c++" thread to see the problems.  A simple fix I'm sure - just wanted to be sure that you were aware of the problem.

I'm impressed!  Great job Mike!  We just need Justin to make it look ascetically pretty.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a new logo or color theme?

Looking at the page's source, it appears that not all the data got ported.  Somehow, there are a lot of missing chunks in that data.  I'll work on resolving this soon.

How about school colors? I don't know how it would look. Just a thought.

Unfortunately, heavy use of red on white and/or black is usually rather harsh on the eyes.  For an example of a bad interface that uses these colors, click here. :-P

I think it would be a good idea though to come up with a color scheme...

bandyguy

Yeah, I see what you mean. hmmm.....

How about the light blue and white of the official ACM logo?  We can add in a light green in memory of the old CRT's...

You could probably useful Red/Black/White successfully if you rely on the Red/Black to be accent colors instead of base colors.  Keep text black, background white, and accents red.

It could work, but then again, I hate visual design.

Is there any way to get rid of the giant advertisement promoting Joomla?

Yeah, joomlashack has some free templates, which could provide a good start, its easy to change the graphics/color schemes to whatever you want.

I dunno if this link will work, but this is where I got mine:
