For those of you who may not have read about the LOTM on other posts, Dr. Bouvier has so kindly volunteered his time to give a monthly presentation covering a selected programming language.  I proudly present to you our first activity of the semester:

CAOS Brings you:

Language of the Month by Dr. Bouvier.
September's Language : JAVA
Where : EB 0012
When : Sept. 10th 4-6pm

I highly encourage everyone to come. Dr. Bouvier is a very experienced and knowledgeable professor, and it should provide to be an extremely informational presentation.  As many of you know we are each taught a set of tools and techniques for solving problems in our future careers.  Knowing multiple languages as well as their strengths and weaknesses greatly increases our skill and effectiveness as computer scientists.

I mentioned this to a few people, but figured I would bring it up on here as well.  Is there any way we could get a video camera and record this?  With class, work, and wife & kid I don't have much time during the evening to attend these.
I would rather be hated for doing what I believe in, than loved for doing what I don't.

If there is a CAOS member who is willing to post video or podcasts of these meetings the CS Department will support the effort with equipment.

Contact me and we'll figure out how to get the equipment needed.

I've already got a plan for video, but I probably could use some help.

Is this going to be happening at the same time each month or is it going to change each month? Just want to know so i can make sure i have the nights off of work.

raptor

I don't think it will be the same every month, but we are trying very hard to have events scheduled several weeks in advance.

Just came from the meeting and it was extremely informative (for me anyway)... although with my workload this semester i don't see myself having time for teaching myself java, but when i find the time I plan on doing it.

the biggest thing i got from the lecture was... if your code doesn't work, take it up to the 3rd floor of EB and it will (delete my account if no one gets this please)

thanks to CAOS and Dr. Bouvier...

Yup, very cool talk. I already knew Java, but it was still interesting. I can't wait for the talks on some of the other languages.

This is a really cool thing for CAOS to have.

Thank you all for the feedback, and a special thanks to Dr. Bouvier for putting this on.  We (CAOS) will continue to make every effort to bring you events that are helpful, informative, and fun. But remember, we can't do it without your participation and input.  Please keep the feedback and recommendations coming.
