What would you think if Yahoo suddenly loaded a whole bunch faster than Google?  How about if eBay loaded a whole bunch faster than Amazon?  You're looking at a glimpse of the future.

ISPs, in a profit saving/increasing measure are looking at charging a fee to supply more bandwidth to certain domains.  Basically, companies that pay more would have their sites load faster.

ISPs complain that whenever someone comes out with a new cool technology that just eats up bandwidth, ISPs end up footing the bill and either lose that profit or pass it onto customers.

The full story is here

My personal take is that doing this will make the internet that much harder for someone without a huge bank account to get ahead in.  Of course that no big change in business, we know the things that big businesses can do and get away with.

My idea--ISPs give everyone broadband, make them pay for the modem lease, and then they pay by the Mb downloaded/uploaded, etc.  People that download/upload a lot won't like it, but it is the ONLY way to be fair to everyone.  People that fileshare like crazy get bigger bills and people that only check their email get small ones.  I download A LOT, so keep that in mind.  This is the only way to be fair so that people that just check their email don't get rate hikes when hundreds of teenagers download the latest Lost episode and some Jenna Jameson porn they heard about.

Regardless of my opinion, keep your eyes open because this will be a big deal/debate in a couple of years.

The last thing I want is to pay for my internet like I pay for my cell phone.
