Killing the Messenger (Turning off the JIT debugging dialog)

Recently, I have had a few students report that after installing Visual Studio they start to get error messages that look something like this.


Unfortunately, this is not a problem with Visual Studio it is an indication that your computer is having other problems.  Adding Visual Studio to your computer has just allowed you to see problems that would otherwise just cause a program to restart or crash.  This is particularly the case with â€Ã...“Windows Explorerâ€Ã, (explorer.exe).  Explorer restarts itself when it crashes so problems with it can often go unnoticed prior to installing Visual Studio.

The good news is that you can prevent this dialog box from appearing without having to take care of the underlying problem (although taking care of the problem is a better solution).  Here are 6 steps that you can follow to â€Ã...“Kill the Messengerâ€Ã,. ;-)  These steps will not adversely affect your intentional debugging.
