Due to overwhelming demand by students, professors, and members, I would like to propose CAOS try the whole t-shirt thing again. Does anyone have any suggestions for what we could put on the T-Shirts?  Will anyone buy the t-shirts if we make them?  (Do you think the company Andrew Lamonica works for will give us a discount... ? :-D )

Maybe (I'll ask).   At the very least, you can customize the size, color, and style options on Zazzle.  Or get you caos.siue.edu handle on the back. :-)

Shaun Martin

I think Ross and Justin Ratcliffe had some ideas for a CS / CAOS shirt.

We've discussed the "Top 10 in CS" shirt, as well as the "Compilation of every post of martins" shirt (though most would not understand this one...  :-P ).  I think the "Top 10" shirt would be generalized enough for all CS students, as well as some of the rest of the engineers.  Though I wouldn't mind having a "Andrew Lamonica is my Homeboy" shirt (Andrew, I demand one when we come into town!)... ;-)

Kaitlyn Schmidt

What is the "Top 10"?  JRat has told me about a few but what is the offical list?

We could put the ASCII table on the front, upside down - for easy reference.

Seconded.
Void is not.

I like Jeff's idea too.  I am also really interested in hearing Jrat's top ten list...  Can someone grab him the next time they see him and tell him to post it?   :-D

I love it! What about one of those C++ syntax /Unix/vi/html..etc.  cheat-sheets. Upside-down, of course.

Brent Beer

holy :censored: that'd be funny. ASCII table on the front, or syntax code. Then the top 10 on the back. or some kind of C++ code or something to "output" something..i dunno, but that'd be hilarious...ly awesome

Am I the only one that doesn't get why we would put the ASCII table upside-down?  I guess I don't get it.

Anyway, here is what we had so far for the Top-10

Disclaimer:
Some of them might not be deemed appropriate (or just mean towards CMIS) but I'll give you what I have.

1. flush() often
2. do not use goto();
3. linux, like communism, will eventually fail
4. goto(2);
5. if( !pass )
        change_major(CMIS);
6. cdr is not a dirty word
7. ?
8. ?
9. ?
10.?

#1 is an OpenGL reference
#6 is a Scheme reference

I get it, and I think its a great idea. What up now, Jrat?

#1 is also a toilet reference
#6 is... well... you know.

Do yo' chain hang low?

Kit

I don't get #6.

ANYWHO. I'm not the original of this picture, but I think it's worth submitting.

...well, I was expecting responses from all of you for some more ideas.

Any ideas for #7, 8, 9, and 10 ??

Since the top ten isn't finished I won't make the shirt just yet.

Jeff's ASCII table shirt is up on the Merchandise Site.
There is also a regular right side up ASCII poster, so you can keep it right next to your favorite coding machine. :-)

Kit's MSPaint idea in on a shirt and on a poster.

There is a CAOS logo keychain AND an offical CAOS postal stamp!

Kit: If you can get permission to use the photo we can make the shirt... :-D

I didnt make either of these up but how about

"#man woman
 segmentation fault! core dumped!"

or "there's no place like 127.0.0.1"

or a slew of dirty *nix commands like
"touch; unzip; mount; fsck; gasp; unmount; make clean; sleep"

Kit

It could be a problem getting the original author of that photo, since there isn't any author listed and it was posted on a random forum. (Like the ORLY? owl... no one really knows who made it but everyone uses it)  :-D

This might be a bit more involved than what you were looking for, but I didn't see many other suggestions so I figured what the hell.
Thanks,
John

We came up with this in CS 321 like a week ago.

R.T.F.M. Grandma!

Read
The
F***ing
Manual
Grandma

This came up because Dr. Bouvier always ask us if we think our mothers or grand mothers could handle any ideas we come up with.  He happened to be talking about his grandma and someone said RTFM and since we were talking about Dr. Bouvier's grandma RTFM Grandma came out of it.

Pretty funny, and would be an inside joke for the CS department.  I think it would be good to add to the top 10 and as a shirt of its own.

I would rather be hated for doing what I believe in, than loved for doing what I don't.

Tony

Oh, I forgot.  If we did do the R.T.F.M thing we could make them for Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, Dad, or anything really.  I am telling you, everyone will want one  :-o

Kit

Haha I like the RTFM Grandma thing.

And on a different note... If you haven't seen Ella's t-shirt, you should check it out. I think it's pretty awesome myself.  :lol:

Anyone who has taken a class with Dr. Yu knows that he does not use the best variable names.  In CS 438 this semester he used the variable name succ, which was supposed to be successor.  Needless to say, when he was explaining this program everytime he said this variable name it sounded like he was saying suck.

The best part came when he had a piece of code that said

if(!succ)
{
  do some action;
}

Well we could just put anything in there and put that on a shirt or add to the top 10 or something.

if(!succ)
{
   SIUE = True;
}

Or something cheesy like that.
