Position title:         ASSOCIATE SYSTEMS ENGINEER
Department:         AS/400 Platform Technologies
Full/Part-time:      Full-time
Level:            Level I

Summary Description of duties:
The associate is responsible for one, or both, of the following two functions for Enterpriseââ,¬â,,¢s server infrastructure: implementation and integration, and technical services and support.  

Specific Description:  Includes the following although other duties may be assigned:
Implementation and Integration
ââ,¬Â¢   Under supervision, the associate will build new server infrastructure of low to moderate complexity.  This activity includes requirement analysis, ordering, and building (i.e., hardware and software).  The associate may work with Platform Solutions and Performance Management to develop and understand the architectural and performance/capacity requirements.
   
   Technical Services and Support
ââ,¬Â¢   A significant part of the associateââ,¬â,,¢s time is supporting and maintaining Enterpriseââ,¬â,,¢s server infrastructure.  This includes hardware, software (e.g., operating systems and 3rd party), and communications.
ââ,¬Â¢   At various times of the month the associate will be on-call and participate in issue and problem resolution.  Issues and problems are managed in conjunction with Production Operations, the business areas, and others as the situation dictates and in some cases the associate will own issues or problems through resolution.
ââ,¬Â¢   The associate will work with Production Operations, the development community, and others to establish and improve processes and procedures related to the server infrastructure.
ââ,¬Â¢   The associate may monitor the daily performance and utilization of the server infrastructure and manage them to achieve service level goals.  S/he works with Performance Management to manage a server platformsââ,¬â,,¢ performance within the overall Enterprise Open Architecture environment.
ââ,¬Â¢   The associate may participate in disaster recovery exercises.
   
   Project Management
ââ,¬Â¢   The associate participates in new development and support projects and will work with the Project Management Office to identify, estimate, and coordinate tasks within the assigned project.  In most cases, these projects will be lead by others.  However, in some cases, the associate may have sole responsibility for projects.  In either case, the associate is responsible for achieving the scheduled commitments and recording all time in the enterpriseââ,¬â,,¢s project management tool.
   
   
   Other
ââ,¬Â¢   The associate may participate in the 24/7 on-call support of the server infrastructure.
ââ,¬Â¢   The associate will work with his or her management to develop and execute a personal development plan.

   Education and/or Experience:
   Bachelorââ,¬â,,¢s degree (Computer Science preferred) or equivalent experience; and a demonstrable proficiency a relevant platform (i.e., Wintel, Solaris/Sun, AIX/RS6000, or AS/400).
   
   Other Skills and Abilities:
ââ,¬Â¢   Familiar with basics of operating system theory, associated 3rd party software products, and hardware components.
ââ,¬Â¢   Ability to rapidly come up to speed on various aspects of technology.
ââ,¬Â¢   Respond to common inquiries or complaints from end-users.
ââ,¬Â¢   Write routine reports for documentation, informational or status reporting requirements.
ââ,¬Â¢   Communicates clearly both orally and in written form.
   
   Equipment and Work Aids:  Individuals must effectively utilize machines and services commonly associated with this position:
   Including servers, workstations, PCââ,¬â,,¢s, networking equipment, computer consoles, printers, FAXââ,¬â,,¢s, copiers, voice mail/phone systems, various software packages.
   
   Physical Demands:  Ã¢â,¬Å"Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functionsââ,¬Â.  Examples include sitting, standing, reaching, talking, hearing, grasping, lifting, etc.
