"Web Services â€ââ,¬Å" Introduction and Challenge"

Web Services is the latest buzzword in the computer industry and the recent architectural evolution of distributed software systems.  It has the potential to radically change work and life styles by providing an unprecedented level of information sharing and process automation.  Major providers of software infrastructure technologies, including IBM, Microsoft, and Sun MicroSystems, are aggressively working to provide environments for developing and deploying web services.

This talk will introduce web services and their underlying architecture, protocols, and standards.  A comparison among existing web services development and deployment technologies will be presented.  Design, development, and verification challenges and best practices will be shared.

Web services technology is relatively new and the focus so far has been on analysis, design, development, and deployment.  No significant work has been done for evaluation and testing of web services.  This talk will also introduce some of the potential research areas related to web services, with particular focus on evaluating web services for functionality, interoperability, security, scalability and performance.  It will highlight the need for building static and dynamic evaluation capabilities in the underlying infrastructure for web services.
