Due to the fact that CS students login to SOENT accounts permission to open the display resolution control panel on lab machines has been restricted.  This means that if you prefer a slightly higher or lower resolution on the machine you are sitting at you are out of luck even if the machine supports that resolution.  However, with the introduction of the new CS Lab Computer Image an alternative method of changing display resolution and refresh rates has been developed added.  On the Programs menu of the Start menu there is a folder called â€Ã...“Desktop Resolution.â€Ã,  Inside this folder are shortcuts to a program called CDR written by Andrew Lamonica and Greg Bartholomew.  The program simply makes the correct API calls to temporarily change the display resolution.  These changes are not held over between restarts of the system or the video drivers, but they work fine in the short term.  You will find that some of the higher resolutions do not work with the older monitors, but otherwise this system is fine.  If anyone is interested in getting a copy of this program let me or Greg know.  This program does work on Phil’s computers, but he does not like it when he sits down at a computer with the resolution changed, so please restart the computer when you leave.
