This is going to be the thread of discussion refered to on the InstallFest flyer.  Hopefully people will come by here to discuss the finer details of the event, i.e. what distos will be available? will there be food? can I bring my dog? etc...

It is hard to plan events without feedback, so please bombard us with questions :)

We are going to need a commited list of people that will be there for user support.  I have an idea of who is available so far, but I would like a better picture of who is ready and willing.  If you are capable of debuging a Linux/BSD install gone wrong, then we need your help.  For all your help and effort you will be rewarded with.....!!!

a pat on the back and a big thank you :)

Yes Jon, you are definintly wanted/needed.  Let me know how early you can be around to setup tables and such.  If you are not interested in that, we can just use your brain :)

If there is enough demand for pizza, I will see about getting some.  Post if you want pizza...

I can help, but the event cannot be Sep. 28, because I have a special function to go to. I can, also, help with the linux installs. If ppl have one partion, I can resize them without loosing data.  :-) I can even install Gentoo correctly 8-) now. I live on campus, so I can be there anytime. Just say when.

For the installfest what exactly would we have to bring? Our whole system or just the box and use siue's keyboard, mouse, etc. And I could help out with setting stuff up but i dont know how much help i would bring to debugging linux since i just installed it on my machine at home.

I talked to Elizabeth about this and we both think it would be best to bring everything.  When installing Linux/BSD, in particular Xwindow, you need to setup your monitor and such devices.  It would be best if you had all your stuff, but if for whatever reason you could not bring it all, let us know, we will do our best to accomadate you.

Bring,
Monitor,keyboard,mouse...
I dont really think we will have the time to tweak aux devices like webcams or other odd video hardware.  Who knows, if you have a fast computer a kernel compile might not take too long....

The paylot next to the EB is free on weekends and we can have a cart avaiable for those with huge honkin' monitors.

Thanks,

The flyers are up!  It is official we are going to be holding this event :)

If anyone needs transportation, let me know.  I am willing to pick up people that are a reasonable distance away.

I plan on combining soybeans on saturday morning about 50 miles from here.  If ya pick me up, I'll give you a bushel straight out of the field for the ride.
