Request for Undergraduate Student Programmer for EUE-06-24

The Civil Engineering department is looking for an undergraduate student to help implement a computer programming project.  The end result of the EUE-funded project, entitled â€Ã...“Data Acquisition using the PDAâ€Ã,, will be to provide a new laboratory data acquisition system based on Personal Data Assistant (PDA) hardware to be used initially for some of the undergraduate CE lab courses. Additional details about the project are attached.

We ask for your help in finding a suitable candidate for what we believe will be a challenging and very worthwhile learning experience. We would appreciate your input on students you feel would be interested and can perform the work. The timeframe for this initial phase of the project is the 2005-2006 academic year. The project budget includes an hourly pay rate of $8.50/hour for 20 hours/week for 39 weeks. Some personal characteristics we are looking for in the successful candidate include:

â€Ã,¢   Undergraduate (preferably a junior or senior graduating May 2006 or later, but an experienced sophomore may be considered) with MS Visual Basic programming experience, and preferably experienced in VB.NET. We may request to see a sample of the student’s programming work.
â€Ã,¢   Current GPA of 3.25 or higher
â€Ã,¢   Will be available to work 20 hours per week and meet with CE dept faculty involved with the project weekly over the project term

In addition, the student selected will be required to keep an on-line project status log (to be provided by us) and must meet the project delivery schedule to be agreed upon at the beginning of the project.

Please have the student candidates fill in the attached simple application and return to my mailbox by September 2, 2005.  We’ll contact students to arrange interviews.

Thank you for your help.
