Cheat in an MMORPG, go to Jail?

The BBC reports of a Chinese student arrested in Japan for stealing items in the MMORPG Lineage 2 and selling them on e-bay.  Allegedly, the student used bots to unfairly defeat his victims and take their stuff.  This is one of the more unusual online legal cases I have seen.  You could argue that if he had cheated in a game that did not allow its pieces to be sold (Checkers, Halo, etc.) then he would be a jerk but not guilty of anything.
