This October the Association for Computing Machinery at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign invites you and your chapter to participate in the Tenth Annual Reflections Projections Student Computing Conference. For the past nine years, the UIUC ACM chapter has hosted a conference for students, faculty and professionals in the field of Computer Science and Engineering. Our tenth anniversary promises to be our best conference yet.

Running from the 22nd through the 24th of October, Reflections Projections
2004 features a list of distinguished speakers, a job fair, the famed MechMania programming contest, as well as technology workshops, tutorials, and panel discussions. We are very particularly excited to be hosting the event in the Thomas M. Siebel Center for Computer Science, the recently opened $80 million home of the University's Computer Science department.

Speakers at this year's conference will include:

- Nick Triantos, Chief Software Architect for the NVIDIA Corporation.

- George Stathakopoulos, Director of Security at Microsoft

- Brad Kuhn, Executive Director of the Free Software Foundation.

- Christopher Horvath, Visual Effects Supervisor and Co-founder of Tweak Films (known for their work on "The Day After Tomorrow", "Lord of the Rings:
Return of The King", and "The Matrix: Reloaded").

- David Anderson, Project Director of SETI@home at UC Berkeley.

- Andrea Pessino, Software Developer at Ready At Dawn Studios, and a developer for Warcraft III.

... as well as nearly a dozen others. A website giving further details on conference speakers is available at http://www.acm.uiuc.edu/conference/

The Reflections Projections Job Fair kicks off the conference from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm on Friday, October 22. The fair is the premier event for students pursuing computer science and computer engineering internships and full-time employment opportunities. Employers already registered for the job fair include Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Archer Daniels Midland. For a more complete list, please visit http://www.acm.uiuc.edu/conference/jobfair

Reflections Projections also encompasses the MechMania artificial intelligence programming contest. The contest gives students the opportunity to put their skills to work in the rapid development of computer-controlled "mechs," which battle against each-other in a virtual arena. Winners each receive an Apple iPod! Registration details for MechMania can be found at http://www.acm.uiuc.edu/conference/mechmania and an info flyer is available at http://www.acm.uiuc.edu/conference/flyers/mmxflyer_color.pdf

Conference registration is $20 and includes a 2004 conference t-shirt, wireless access during the conference, optional placement in the job fair resume database, and six meals throughout the conference.

To register or for more information, please visit http://www.acm.uiuc.edu/conference/ or email questions to conference@acm.uiuc.edu

I and a few others were considering it. I suppose it could be made into something of a road trip, albeit a somewhat tame and academic one.

which would seem all too fitting for a bunch of computer geeks would it not?  Besides I haven't had a chance to hit up the Chambana bar scene since my turning of age.  However, I will not be able to go. I have test participants already signed up for that weekend. :(

Well, while I'm (probably) still available, the people whom I had been discussing going with aren't. Is anyone else interested in trying to drive out this Saturday?
